The Pilbara region of Western Australia is home to the Iron Bridge Magnetite Project, which is currently under development. The team at Viking Industrial have powered the project through its construction phase and will continue to do so as production gets underway and beyond. What is the Iron Bridge Magnetite project?
The Iron Bridge Magnetite project is an unincorporated joint venture between Fortescue’s subsidiary FMS Iron Bridge and Formosa Steel IB. The project is located 145km south of Port Hedland in Western Australia, in the remote Pilbara region. It is currently in the development stage, where the installation of a 135km concentrate slurry pipeline to Port Hedland, together with a return water pipeline are being completed. With first production scheduled for late 2022, and a ramp up period of 12 to 18 months, the project is expected to deliver 22mtpa of the highest grade magnetite concentrate product once it is in full operation.
How is Viking helping to power the project?
Viking Industrial has supplied power to the construction phase since May 2020, and we currently have a large fleet of sale and rental equipment on site. This includes the initial sale of 12 generators, plus 3 x 350kVA generators and a distribution board to power a 300-man fly camp. In addition to power, we are also lighting up the site, with a fleet of 12 solar lighting towers currently in use.
With production set to kick off soon, the ongoing contract now involves a running list of equipment that can be called upon depending on demand. We are looking forward to 25 years plus of equipment supply to keep the project powered in the future.
