Background
Snowy 2.0 is the next stage in the Snowy Mountains scheme – a nation-building renewable energy and large-scale storage for generations at low costs. It’s the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia, set to deliver 2,000MW of on-demand energy and 350,000MWh of large scale storage for the National Electricity Market.
The Viking solution
In 2020, we supplied the first generators for Snowy 2.0 for early works across various sites. These sixteen generators provided 16MW of power, with eight sets being utilised to support infrastructure (such as worker camp accommodation) around the site. Fuel tanks, cables and other equipment were also provided. Smaller Viking generators are also onsite, ranging from 2kVA ‘push-around’ to 600kVA sets, supporting fly-camps, semi-permanent camps and smaller tasks.
Viking Industrial’s Service Team is contracted to provide 24/7 support and maintenance to all our equipment onsite. Our Cooma branch was set up to provide the best project support possible, with a growing team of five full-time staff and regular visits from our Brisbane and Perth teams.
