Iron Bridge Magnetite Project

Background

Located 145km south of Port Hedland in Western Australia, the Iron Bridge Magnetite Project is an unincorporated joint venture between Fortescue’s subsidiary FMS Iron Bridge and Formosa Steel IB. The project is under development and includes the installation of a 135km concentrate slurry pipeline to Port Hedland, together with a return water pipeline. The project is expected to deliver 22mtpa of the highest grade magnetite concentrate product.

The Viking solution

With first production scheduled for late 2022, and a ramp up period of 12 to 18 months, Viking Industrial has supplied power to the construction phase since May 2020. We have a large fleet of sale and rental equipment on site, including the initial sale of 12 generators. Recently, we have provided 3 x 350kVA generators and a distribution board to power a 300-man fly camp. There is also a fleet of 12 solar lighting towers currently in use.

The contract now involves a running list of equipment that can be called upon depending on demand. We are looking forward to 25 years plus of equipment supply to keep the project powered in the future.

“We recently purchased a fleet of Solar Trailers with a set expectation and design requirement for our remote site requirements. The team at Viking worked with us to complete the specification and orders. The fleet has been on the job for around three months now, meeting our requirements. We are looking at more units currently with the team and look forward to continued supply in the future.”
