ENGINEERING A MOBILE POWER RESPONSE VEHICLE FOR BRISBANE AIRPORT

Viking Industrial was engaged by Actemium to design and deliver a fully custom Power Response Vehicle for the Brisbane Airport precinct — a mobile backup power solution capable of reaching every area of the site at short notice.

Working from an Isuzu truck chassis, Viking’s Brisbane-based engineering team designed and built a complete power package to meet two firm requirements: the finished vehicle had to remain within strict height limits to access all areas of the airport, and power had to be deployable quickly and safely by a single technician. The solution centres on a 625kVA Cummins generator paired with a 5,000-litre integrated fuel tank, mounted side by side to keep the overall height of the build within the required limit. Automatic cable reels at the rear of the vehicle allow technicians to deploy heavy-duty cabling at the push of a button — eliminating manual handling and reducing deployment time. Engineering, fabrication, and fit-out were completed entirely in-house at Viking’s Brisbane workshop.
